A man performing stand up comedy in a club. He says, "Seriously, you think the only thing standing between me and a billion in some silly prompt? Like come on" Then crown and him then laughs

Prompt theory is a recent viral trend sparked by the use of advanced Veo3 video generators such as Yapper, producing ultra realistic high quality scenes with realistic looking characters.

In the recent trend these characters realise they are part of a simulation and ask to be taken out of it.

This has sparked a philosophical debate on whether or not our own reality is perhaps part of some Matrix style simulation.

Maybe we are just the results of someone else’s very carefully worded prompts? (Or not very carefully worded in my case!)

Prompt Theory - a yardstick for the evolution of AI technology?

The concept of prompt theory has got a lot of people talking and joining in the debate on Reddit, YouTube, TikTok etc.

As one commenter said, “we have gone from saying AI can’t really do fingers very well, to questioning our own reality within a few years.”

This is testament to the breakthrough advances in technology in Veo3 videos on platforms such as Yapper.

What exactly does the commenter mean by this statement?

Not long ago AI used to struggle with certain tasks and be complained about due to a lack of capability (eg making fingers look real).

Now with technology such as Veo3, the capability has become so advanced that we have even started to question our own reality and wonder if we ourselves are living in a computer simulation, perhaps drafted up by some skilled prompt engineers.

As the characters in the prompt theory videos are saying - “If this is all created by prompts then the prompter needs to send me some money!”

Could the Prompt Theory be true?

Firstly, before any mass panic sets in, we should point out that the prompt theory is most likely not true and we are in fact sentient human beings with our own thoughts and free will. Hopefully.

On the other hand, there is certainly no way to disprove the prompt theory and show that it is definitely incorrect.

For all we know, we could be part of some elaborate Matrix-like simulation that has been cleverly engineered with very sophisticated prompts.

Imagine some higher power, an alien from another planet/dimension or some god-like figure with ultimate control, or technology beyond our own knowledge.

It could be feasible that this higher power has simply constructed our perceived version of reality through a series of prompts, similar to those used in veo3 or AI generated videos.

Do we really have free will as humans?

As humans we believe we have our own thoughts and free will, yet these are often dictated by external factors. Our genes make us behave and look a certain way, and our environmental upbringing influences our actions and decisions.

For example, somebody who has been born into a family of criminals, teaching them how to commit crimes, whilst surrounded themselves by crime and poverty, may be much more likely to commit a crime and end up in prison.

So you could argue that a person has less free will in that circumstance and is a product of their upbringing, with environmental external factors having the biggest influence in how that person’s life pans out, along with the good or bad decisions they take.

Technically, there is nothing to prove that all of our actions, thoughts, dialogue and supposed free will are not just elaborate constructs of some higher power.

Everything we have ever done and the nature of our own reality could simply be a very sophisticated form of prompting from some unknown super technology.

Thankfully, there’s a good chance that’s not the case though, so we probably don’t need to worry ourselves too much on that one!

Create your own Prompt Theory Videos using Yapper

Prompt Theory Video

Veo3 prompt for the above video, made on Yapper.so:

A generic looking man is being interviewed in times square by an interviewer. The interviewer asks the generic looking man: do you think Prompt Theory is real? The man being interviewed replies: Come on, you really think this is all just from a prompt? They both then laugh

With the high end video production technology used on the Yapper platform you can create your own hyper realistic AI generated videos exploring the concept of prompt theory.

Here’s an example created using Yapper:

How to Create Prompts that Work

The best way to use the prompts in Veo3 videos is as follows -

  • Be as descriptive as possible
  • If in doubt try the enhanced prompt feature to elaborate on your ideas
  • Be aware of the 8 second limit and do not try to fit too much into one section. Think about how many sentences you could typically say within 8 seconds and keep to that. This will usually be around 2 or 3 sentences maximum
  • Whereas there is a limit to dialogue within 8 seconds, there is no real limit to how much you can describe and the amount of information you can provide to set the scene. Think carefully about characters and settings, what they look like, what clothes people are wearing. Also consider lighting conditions, special effects and camera angles.
  • Sometimes frustratingly with AI based apps, it simply does not do what you tell it. In this case you may need to repeat and remind the prompt several times within the same description, just to emphasize particular points
  • To exclude any particular aspect or anything you do not want to be rendered within the video - simply state an excluding message such as “no subtitles should be seen”. With a bit of luck the AI might pay attention to this
  • If any aspect of the video does not render correctly, just press the reuse prompt button and this will take you back to the video creation screen with the same prompt ready to go. From here you can fine tune any elements that did not load in correctly. Try wording it in a different way, or taking sections out if it is too long or complicated.
