In this article, I’m going to break down exactly how I made The Odyssey with Seedance 2.5, including the prompts, character sheets, environment references, and assets I prepared before generating the actual scenes.

I’ll also leave the original prompt sections here so you can copy them, modify them, or import the assets into your own project.

The finished film is above. Below is the full workflow so you can reuse the process in your own project.

Part 1: Preparing the Element Sheets

The first thing I did was prepare all of the main elements I knew I would need throughout the film. Instead of jumping straight into individual scenes, I generated the characters, character variations, locations, creatures, and important objects first.

Odysseus

This is the main version of Odysseus used throughout the project.

Odysseus warrior character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Odysseus warrior character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Create a photorealistic natural studio character sheet of a rugged ancient warrior in four vertical panels against a smooth neutral gray backdrop: a front three-quarter full-body view, side profile, rear full-body view, and a close-up portrait; The full-body front, side, and rear panels are intentionally headless, with the figure cleanly cropped at the base of the neck so no head or face is visible. The warrior has a muscular weathered build, tan skin, thick curly black hair and a full dark beard, wearing a dark burgundy short-sleeved tunic beneath hammered bronze chest armor with visible rivets, layered bronze waist plates, thick brown leather belts and straps, bronze shin guards, and worn leather sandals, carrying a short bronze sword and a large weathered oval wooden shield reinforced with metal edging, rivets, and crossed structural braces; in the portrait he wears a distinctive aged ivory-colored segmented helmet made from overlapping bone-like plates with visible wear, stains, and small metal fasteners; realistic aged metal patina, scratches, dents, leather grain, fabric texture, natural skin pores and body hair, soft diffused studio lighting, subtle shadows, restrained earthy colors, accurate human proportions, documentary-style photography, highly realistic materials, natural camera rendering, sharp but not overly processed, no fantasy glow or CGI appearance..

Calypso

Next, I created Calypso and established her appearance before using her in any of the actual shots.

Calypso character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Calypso character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Create a photorealistic natural studio character sheet of an elegant ancient Mediterranean woman shown in four vertical panels against a smooth neutral gray background: front full-body view, side profile, rear full-body view, and a close-up portrait; The full-body front, side, and rear panels are intentionally headless, with the figure cleanly cropped at the base of the neck so no head or face is visible. she has a slim graceful build, warm olive-toned skin, long naturally wavy dark brown hair, brown eyes, defined brows, and subtle classical features with a calm neutral expression, wearing a floor-length soft ivory-beige linen dress with a deep V-shaped wrapped neckline, delicate woven trim along the neckline and hem, a simple braided rope belt tied at the waist with hanging tassels, and an asymmetrical draped shawl falling from one shoulder down the side of the body, paired with simple brown leather sandals and minimal bronze jewelry; emphasize realistic linen folds, slightly imperfect woven fabric, natural skin pores, fine facial texture, individual hair strands, subtle body contours, and understated handmade details, photographed with soft diffused studio lighting, gentle shadows, neutral earthy tones, realistic camera perspective, natural proportions, crisp but unprocessed focus, documentary-style realism, authentic historical styling, and no CGI or illustration appearance.

Wanderer Odysseus

I also needed a separate version of Odysseus for the parts of the film where he appears more like a wanderer, so I generated this as its own element rather than trying to change his appearance every time I generated a scene.

Wanderer Odysseus character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Wanderer Odysseus character sheet with front, side, back, and portrait views
Create a photorealistic natural studio character sheet of a rugged middle-aged ancient traveler or laborer shown in four vertical panels against a smooth neutral gray background: front full-body view, side profile, rear full-body view, and a close-up portrait; The full-body front, side, and rear panels are intentionally headless, with the figure cleanly cropped at the base of the neck so no head or face is visible. he has a lean, weathered build, pale-to-tan skin, long messy dark brown hair streaked with gray, a thick untrimmed gray-brown beard, tired deep-set eyes, pronounced forehead lines, and a serious, worn expression, dressed in layered coarse garments made from rough brown, charcoal, and taupe woven cloth, including a loose knee-length tunic, an asymmetrical dark draped scarf or cowl around the neck and shoulders, frayed hems, torn edges, and simple wrapped fabric around the forearms and lower legs, paired with primitive worn brown leather sandals; the clothing should look handmade, dusty, aged, and heavily used, with visible loose fibers, uneven stitching, faded fabric, dirt, and natural folds; emphasize realistic skin pores, wrinkles, beard hairs, damp separated hair strands, calloused hands and feet, subtle scars and grime, soft diffused studio lighting, gentle floor shadows, muted earthy colors, accurate human anatomy, natural camera perspective, documentary-style photography, crisp realistic detail without oversharpening, authentic historical atmosphere, and absolutely no CGI, fantasy-art, or illustration appearance.

The Shoreline

The shoreline is one of the main environments in the film, so I prepared it as a separate environment reference.

Wide shoreline environment reference used for Ogygia
Wide shoreline environment reference used for Ogygia
Create a photorealistic natural landscape photograph of a vast shallow desert wetland stretching toward the horizon, with irregular pools and narrow channels of calm silvery water weaving through pale sandy mudflats, patches of sparse green-brown marsh vegetation and damp earth scattered across the foreground and midground, and soft beige sand dunes rising gently along the distant left side before fading into a long flat desert plateau; use a very wide horizontal composition with a low open horizon and an expansive pale blue-gray sky filled with thin hazy clouds, soft warm daylight, subtle atmospheric haze, muted beige, gray, and dusty green tones, realistic reflections and ripples in the shallow water, naturally textured sand and wet sediment, distant details softened by heat and atmospheric perspective, quiet untouched environment with no people, buildings, roads, or vehicles, natural documentary landscape photography, realistic camera exposure, understated contrast, fine environmental detail, and a completely lifelike photographic appearance with no CGI, illustration, or fantasy styling.

Supporting Characters and Other Elements

After the main elements were ready, I prepared the supporting characters, creatures, and objects that would appear throughout the film.

Odysseus' Army

For the soldiers travelling with Odysseus, I created a separate army reference that I could reuse whenever I needed groups of soldiers in a scene.

Odysseus army lineup reference
Odysseus army lineup reference
Create a photorealistic natural studio photograph of nine ancient infantry soldiers standing side by side in an evenly spaced straight formation, all full-body and facing forward against a seamless pale gray background; each man has a strong athletic build, sun-tanned Mediterranean skin, dark shoulder-length hair, light stubble or short rugged beards, and subtle individual facial differences while wearing matching aged bronze military equipment: fitted segmented bronze cuirasses with rivets and shoulder fittings, dark burgundy short-sleeved tunics with pleated skirts, tall bronze greaves, strapped brown leather sandals, and bronze helmets topped with short upright black horsehair crests; give the armor realistic dents, scratches, oxidation, tarnish, hammered surfaces, leather fastenings, and signs of prolonged use, with relaxed disciplined postures, arms naturally at their sides, stern neutral expressions, accurate historical proportions, soft diffused studio lighting, gentle floor shadows, realistic skin pores and body hair, restrained earthy colors, natural camera perspective, documentary-style photography, crisp lifelike detail, and no CGI or illustration appearance.

Cyclops

The Cyclops was created as its own character element before I started generating the scenes involving him.

Cyclops character sheet with multiple views
Cyclops character sheet with multiple views
Character reference sheet of a Cyclops from ancient Greek myth, on a plain light gray studio background with even soft lighting. Layout: full-body front view, full-body back view, full-body side profile, and a face/upper-body close-up, all at the same scale with a consistent ground line, clearly separated with thin margins. Subject: a colossal, very humanoid giant, roughly three times human height implied by proportion and bulk, powerfully muscled like an ancient Greek warrior. A single large round eye centered in the middle of the forehead, otherwise a normal human-like face structure with heavy brow, weathered sun-worn skin, and a thick unkempt beard. Wardrobe: simple draped animal-hide and roughspun wool wrap around the waist, leather cross-strap sandals, minimal rope and bone ornaments, no armor. Style: natural photorealistic, Arri Alexa IMAX-style cinema realism, natural daylight studio lighting, no text, no labels, no captions, no title block.

Laestrygonians

I also created the Laestrygonians as a separate creature / character reference for their scenes.

Laestrygonian giant tribe lineup reference
Laestrygonian giant tribe lineup reference
Create a photorealistic natural studio photograph of six rugged prehistoric giants standing side by side in a straight lineup, full-body and facing forward against a seamless light gray background, each with a tall, heavily muscular build, broad shoulders, powerful limbs, weathered sun-tanned skin, thick body hair, long unkempt dark or brown hair, and dense rugged beards with slightly different hairstyles, ages, and facial features; dress them in primitive asymmetrical garments made from rough animal hides, fur pelts, worn leather scraps, braided rope belts, simple cords, bone and stone pendants, with some fur draped diagonally across one shoulder and others partially bare-chested, all barefoot with naturally dirty, calloused feet; give every giant a stern, stoic expression and relaxed but imposing stance with arms hanging naturally at the sides, emphasizing realistic anatomy rather than exaggerated fantasy proportions; show highly detailed skin pores, scars, wrinkles, veins, hair strands, matted fur, frayed fabric edges, dirt, leather grain, and handmade primitive accessories, with soft diffused studio lighting, subtle floor shadows, neutral earthy brown tones, realistic camera perspective, crisp natural focus, documentary-style photography, authentic lifelike textures, minimal retouching, and absolutely no CGI, illustration, or fantasy-art appearance.

Soaked Odysseus

For this version of Odysseus, I generated another dedicated reference so I could use the exact look whenever the character appeared in this form.

Soaked Odysseus character sheet with wet red tunic
Soaked Odysseus character sheet with wet red tunic
Create a photorealistic natural studio character sheet of a rugged man completely soaked with water, shown in four vertical panels against a muted gray background: front full-body view, side profile, rear full-body view, and a close-up portrait; The full-body front, side, and rear panels are intentionally headless, with the figure cleanly cropped at the base of the neck so no head or face is visible. he has a strong muscular build, medium olive-tan skin, dark wet shoulder-length hair hanging in separated strands across his forehead and face, a short thick black beard, tired intense eyes, and a serious expression, wearing only a simple knee-length dark crimson-red sleeveless tunic made from coarse woven cloth, saturated with water so that it clings naturally to his torso and hangs heavily from the body, with large irregular dark wet patches across the front and back; he is barefoot with damp skin, visible droplets running down his arms and legs, water dripping from the tunic hem and hair, and a few small puddles beneath his feet, with realistic pores, veins, body hair, fabric weave, wrinkles, wet sheen, transparent water droplets, and naturally flattened hair, illuminated by soft diffused studio lighting with gentle shadows, restrained earthy-red tones, accurate anatomy, documentary photography realism, natural camera rendering, minimal retouching, and absolutely no CGI or illustration appearance.

Odysseus' Ship

Finally, I generated the ship as its own reusable element. Since it appears across multiple shots and from different angles, having a clear reference for it made it much easier to use later in the project.

Ancient two-masted warship reference sheet
Ancient two-masted warship reference sheet
Create a photorealistic studio documentation sheet of a large ancient wooden warship shown from multiple angles against a clean light gray background, including broad side views, a direct rear view, and a close-up of the dramatically raised curved prow; construct the vessel from heavily weathered dark timber planks with visible joints, pegs, repairs, rope lashings, worn edges, and salt-stained surfaces, featuring a long low hull, high curling prow, elevated stern structure, rows of round wooden shields mounted along the gunwales, numerous long wooden oars extending from both sides, two tall timber masts carrying large rectangular beige linen sails, and an intricate network of natural fiber rigging and ropes; the sails should appear aged, uneven, patched, creased, and slightly stained, while every timber surface shows realistic grain, cracking, discoloration, moisture wear, and handmade construction, photographed with soft neutral studio lighting, subtle shadows, accurate engineering scale and proportions, highly realistic materials, sharp natural photographic detail, archaeological reconstruction realism, and no stylized CGI or fantasy embellishment.

Part 2: Generate the Clips

Now that the element sheets are complete, it’s time to start generating the actual clips. I generated each scene separately to have more control over the final result. Here are the prompts I used for each scene.

Each prompt below includes the exact source assets used by its root generation. The named @references appear above the prompt and are attached automatically when you click Use Prompt.
